The Steer Dining Room team were proud to host our esteemed guests for the Penfolds, Wagyu & Black Truffle Wine Dinner on Wednesday 12th July 2023. Held annually, the dinner is usually sold out within days and presents the ultimate dining experience featuring ultra premium wine, exquisite beef and the elusive Black Truffles.
"We don't host wine dinners very often, so when we do Head Chef Jeffry and I decided to pick simply the best components to put on a great showcase - back vintage Penfolds wines, seasonal black truffles from Manjimup in Western Australia and a stellar line-up of award-winning Wagyu: Sher Wagyu, Stone Axe, Mayura Station and 2GR. Also featured was 'World's Best Steak 2022: Kagoshima A5 Wagyu flown in from Japan." says Harold Faizal, General Manager of Steer Dining Room.
The evening started with a special spritzer cocktail made with Eden Valley Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling and a special musical set performed by talented local violinist Justin Bailey.
The menu included Hokkaido scallops served with White Sturgeon caviar, followed by a specially curated 4-course Wagyu degustation with each dish presenting a specific producer and progression of flavours throughout the evening. The highlight was a Wagyu Duo for the main course - Kagoshima A5 Wagyu paired with Stone Axe Wagyu served with a glass of 2004 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz.
The stellar line-up of Penfolds wines featured the 4th Penfolds x Thienot collaboration, iconic flagship white Yattarna Chardonnay, experimental Cellar Reserve Grenache from McLaren, back vintages of Bin 407 (2016) and Bin 389 (2004), before finishing with Penfolds Grandfather tawny port. "I really wanted to capture the breadth and consistency of the Penfolds range, throughout its expansive portfolio but also rewarding the time and age some of these wines have gracefully endured," says Harold Faizal.
Special guest Zoe Warrington (Penfolds Global Wine Ambassador) was also present on the night, giving an insight into the history and legacy of these wines.
